Frequently asked questions
What is the commitment?
We set a recurring weekly day (or days) to meet for one hour or more. We are also open to scheduling additional time when student needs demand. The weekly commitment also comes with no pressure as service can be discontinued any time. We are confident that our great work will keep the relationship going for the long run. In many cases, we have worked with students (and their siblings) for several years.
What grade levels do you serve?
We are busiest with middle and high school students, but we certainly work with elementary and college students as well.
What subjects do you cover?
We are busiest with all levels of Math and all sections of the ACT/SAT, but we also have experts on the team covering classes across the Science, English, History, and Spanish disciplines. We also provide K-8 single & multi-subject support.
What are the goals of the session?
We take a holistic view on how busy students are today and thus work efficiently.
In regard to curriculum tutoring, we at once help students stay up to speed on current assignments while simultaneously teaching the underlying concepts. We also prioritize quiz and test preparation again with the goal of the students mastering the content and building their knowledge base for the long-run. We also review prior foundational knowledge as needed and aim to give our students to the confidence and ability to continue their prep in their own time.
In regard to standardized test prep, our program consists of teaching key test-taking strategies and academic concepts. Another major component of our program is assigned homework consisting mainly of test section practice. Such assignments allow students to both put in further significant preparation on their own time and allow them to get the most out of subsequent sessions when those assignments are reviewed. This process allows for a tutor to focus in on exactly where a student is individually struggling and provide customized learning opportunities.
We also believe in being flexible to each student’s individual needs and are glad to tailor individual sessions and/or longer run planning to meet those needs.
How much does the service cost?
One-on-one rates begin at $80/hr and depend on content covered.
Group rates are lower per student and depend on number of students and content covered.
